Opener mismatch after replacement
That decade gap matters more than it sounds. A door bought and installed in 1970 was likely replaced once already, maybe twice, and whatever opener got bolted on afterward doesn't always match the original track or spring sizing. We see a lot of torsion springs here that were sized for a lighter door than the one currently hanging on them, which means they fatigue faster and snap without much warning.
